"The special interests have a lot to say about what goes on in both parties. But my real frustration is I can't be effective for my constituents," The Fresno Bee reports Arambula saying a couple days ago. At age 57, Assemblymember Juan Arambula is frustrated with elective politics and does not intend to run again. He has 18 months left in his term. Meanwhile, in demonstration of his growing concern over the decisions of his party, today (Tuesday 6/22/09) the Democrat Assemblymember switched his party affiliation to Independent.  He assures us that the Democratic Caucus will continue fighting for important “safety net” efforts, such as schools.  Assembly Speaker Karen Bass calls his departure unfortunate, according to the Sacramento Bee.

"In Sacramento, every issue has to pass a litmus test. The Democrats must run issues by the public employee unions and the Republicans sign pledges to out-of-state political action committees not to raise taxes. Everyone's position seems to be pre-determined, which is why the "debates" on bills during legislative hearings are a farce."
